Rehab Challenge

April 26, 2006

A major challenge in my life was trying to get over my injuries and getting through rehab. I felt really challenged because the first time a did my knee and some of the exercises took time and I didn’t really want to it because they were difficult and I had better things to do but I had to keep persisting because it ment if I didn’t do these exercise’s good the first time it would mean my knee wouldn’t be as strong as it used to be and that ment my knee would become easy to dislocate and it mite mean I mite not ever play sports again. I’m a sports freak so I need to get through this so I kept doing my exercises. After about 4 weeks of rehab and 7 weeks in a splint I was back out on the footy field again and I was moving around good and then came the semi final, I got through 3 quarters and then bang my own team mate had slidden into my ankle and it snapped and this happened about 6 weeks before the cricket season and of course cricket is my favourite sport. So I was in plaster for 6 weeks and couldn’t do anything and it killed me because I couldn’t cricket train and then finally when the plaster came off I had to get use to walking on it again before I could start rehab AGAIN. I got use to walking again and I got more difficult exercises to strengthen my ankle and the same thing happened I couldn’t be bothered but I thought if I do these properly I can get back out and play cricket again and that just inspired me. The physio told me I couldn’t play cricket probably until after Christmas but I kept doing my exercises every night and it became strong enough. I did the best I could so I could get back playing cricket before Christmas and I did I only ended up missing the first two games. After doing all the hard work with my ankle the first game back I ended up hitting a fifty and I proved to myself I can do it if I really want to.

  1. Good work M! An excellent example of a challenge you’ve had to face and the strategies you used to do so. Try writing in shorter sentences though as it makes your writing easier to read. It’s also worth running a spellcheck as there’s a couple of typos it would have picked up for you.
